The programme is a not-for-profit initiative that fills the gap in dance education in India. Whilst there are many talented dancers around the country who are interested in Contemporary Dance, the opportunities available to them are very very few.Our residency programme is the perfect place for Indian and International dancers to train together, teach together and make lasting creative partnerships and collaborations.

The Residency is ideal for freelance professionals and dancers in training who want to develop themselves to a higher standard in the areas of performance, choreography or teaching.
The Himachal Dance Residency starts on the 14th of May and ends on the 17th of August 2018.
The regular schedule will consist of early morning Somatics & Body Conditioning, followed by Breakfast, 2 x technical classes followed by Lunch, Siesta (mid day break/nap), early evening workshop or lecture, followed by dinner, with field activities or rehearsals at night.
Freelance dancers, teachers, choreographers, studio owners, college graduates and those with at least a year of professional dance training are encouraged to apply.
We are also very interested in Classical dancers and urban dancers who are interested in learning Western Contemporary techniques and methods of choreography and composition to add to their vocabulary.
Every technique class will be accompanied by a live musician, a rare treat in India but common practice in most international dance institutes. Our musicians hail from many different parts of the world and we are blessed that the Dharamshala community is made up of some of the very best of them!

We would like to reiterate that the course is a not-for-profit initiative. For one international participant we are able to provide food and accommodation for one of our Indian scholarship students. Whilst some of our Indian students are able to afford the course, many are unable to pay for their food and accommodation costs. We are happy to provide an innovative model whereby everyone can train together, no matter their socio-economic background.
