This is a unique opportunity to work with Kerry Nicholls Dance for a series of six intensive days to enhance professional development for dance practitioners and artists.
With an aim to rejuvenate current practice, Kerry will begin each day by leading a fast-paced, and athletically demanding technique class using the foundations of Limon and release based techniques. Kerry will be accompanied by long-time music collaborator, Christopher Benstead. Kerry and Chris share their strong connection in this energetic technique class. These morning sessions of high-quality professional training, will explore a kinetic use of spatial architectonics with an emphasis placed on physical and mental stamina, and artistry. With a rare chance to experience first-hand, Nicholls’s physically testing movement language, Kerry will lead further workshops drawing from an eclectic bank of repertory leading the participants through a range of phrases from numerous works. Further exploration with this material will illuminate new generative task-based choreographic tools which in turn, will open new doors to individuals’ creativity. The findings of these will be structured into a piece to perform at the culmination of the week – housed in an original score composed by Chris – so as to enhance per formative skills and give totality to process. Kerry delivers this course as part of KND’s ongoing commitment to facilitating meaningful professional development. This aims to be a rigorous and challenging six-day course – not to be missed.
